Instrumentalists

The purpose of this page is to pay tribute to the thousands of Jazz instrumentalists that I have been moved by on countless recordings purchased and live events attended since falling in love with Jazz in 1960.

Although I focus my reviews, presentations and radio programs on Jazz vocalists, I also treasure the time spent listening to the myriad of accomplished and exciting instrumentalists, either with or without vocals. They are truly the bedrock from which the many exciting forms of Jazz sprang and on which they will always rest.

There is truly no higher or more honored calling than that of a Jazz musician, when one considers the extraordinary artists who have performed it, as well as the peerlessly demanding prerequisites:
    - Technical proficiency of the highest order
    - Creative improvisation
    - Authentic feeling for the Blues
    - Loose, but structured ability to swing in all tempos

   Similar to the
FAVORITES LISTS web page, which salutes various types of vocalists, clicking on the various links by instrument below will display the photos of one of the many excellent CD's by my favorite musicians. It should be stressed that there are an enormous number of other compelling artists that I or others could have included, given the beautifully subjective nature of listening to music.
